How to Recycling glass bottles and jars

Recycling glass bottles and jars can save you money and help to save the planet. Using decorative recycled glass bottles and jars is also a very attractive way to display flowers and to store dry goods and spices.
Overview

There are many ways to recycle glass bottles and jars without sending them to the recycling center. In most cases, glass containers can be washed and reused for other purposes. When you're shopping at the grocery store, be sure to purchase products that are in attractive and decorative glass containers. If you plan ahead to wash and reuse a glass container, you're not just recycling; you're precycling, too. Recycling a single glass bottle or jar can save enough energy to light a 100 watt light bulb for as much as 4 hours. Thus recycling bottles and jars is definitely worth the effort.
Recycling Glass Jars for Storage of Dry Goods

If you tend to purchase food in bulk from health food stores, keeping it in the original plastic bag isn't a good idea. Glass containers, on the other hand, are ideal to protect your bulk foodstuffs. Spaghetti jars are usually the best choice. To get started recycling, you'll need a bottle brush, some dish soap, isopropyl alcohol and Goo Gone, a natural citrus-based cleaner. First, rinse the jar out on the inside. Fill it with water and add some dish soap. Then scrub around inside the glass jar with the large end of the bottle brush. Use the small end of the bottle brush to dislodge any stubborn bits of food.

Wet the label of the jar with water and carefully remove as much as possible with a blunt tool such as a screwdriver. Then wet the jar label down with alcohol. Continue to gently work the label off of the jar with the tool. Then spray some Goo Gone on the remaining adhesive. Allow it to sit for several minutes. Then rub the adhesive off the glass jar with a clean white cloth. Wash the jar thoroughly with soap and water and allow it to dry. If the glass jar has a decorative lid, you're done with your recycling. If not, simply go over it with a little craft paint. Then paint the name of whatever product you plan to put in it. Finish it with polyurethane varnish. You can also use white adhesive labels to mark the contents of your storage jars.

Recycling Glass Bottles for Art and Craft Projects

Recycling glass bottles for art and craft projects can be a little tricky, since they're hard to clean. Usually, the mouth of the bottle is fairly slender, making it difficult to get the cleaning utensil inside. However, your trusty bottle brush can help here, as well. Fill the glass bottle partway with water and a little dish soap. Then put the small end of the bottle brush inside and scrub well. Remove the label from the glass bottle with alcohol and Goo Gone as described above. Thoroughly wash and dry the bottle. The best bottles to recycle are decorative bottles with colored glass such as wine and vinegar bottles. You can recycle them to create recycled crafts such as flower vases and candle holders. Using paper mache is a creative way to make your glass bottle look more original and attractive.
Recycling Glass Spice Jars

It can be heartbreaking to spend over $3.00 on a jar of spice, only to discover that the same amount of the same spice can be purchased in bulk for just a few cents. However, the glass jars that these expensive spices come in are ideal for recycling. Wash the jars using the small end of a bottle brush and remove the labels. Once the adhesive has been removed from the spice jar, use a tape measure to measure the area where the label used to be. Use this to gauge the size of the new label. In most glass spice jars, this will be about 1 1/2 by 2 inches. Use a ruler to measure these dimensions on a white adhesive label. Draw the name of the new spice in colored pencils or marker on the new label. Draw pictures of the spice or add decorations, if you like. Then simply cut out the new label and carefully align it on the front of the spice jar. This is a very good way to store spices which you ground or mixed from scratch.

Using these tips will make your home a greener and more beautiful place to live in. It will also save money and give you a creative outlet for expressing your unique personality.

Save Our Earth by Recycling

If you love the earth, then it's good you read this article. This article tells about how to recycle.

Recycling is the term used to describe an alternative form of getting rid of used materials. Instead of putting used materials in a landfill, it is processed and made into new items. Through recycling it is possible to reduce the amount of waste going into landfills and it also helps to bring prices down on items that are made form using recycled waste. You can make an impact by recycling garbage with almost anything. Recycling has expanded and grown to allow for everything from paper to plastic to batteries to be recycled and made into something useful again.

Recycling is also great for the planet. It takes items that would just sit in a landfill, taking years to degrade and breaks down, and turns them into new products. The life of an item that can be recycled can go on and on. From its creation this recyclable item begins a long life that may take on many forms.
Recycling Garbage can produce many different new items. For example, an old used pop bottle may not become a pop bottle again. It may, instead become part of a child's toy or even part of a car. As you can see, recycling goes way beyond traditional uses and explores new ways to make recycled items more useful.
Recycling is important and has became a key component in waste management. Most cities and towns have some type of recycling center. They can freely put their recyclable materials out for collection. In many places this is done free of charge. The only thing a person has to do is separate out their recyclable waste and make sure to put it in the recycling bin for collection.

There are even public recycling bins. Many grocery stores have bins for recycling old plastic grocery bags. These bags are collected and then processed right back into new grocery bags. Other examples are bins for aluminum cans which can usually be readily found.

Recycling is not a new concept, but initiating it into modern society took some time. In the past people would simply discard everything without thought of recycling. Now most people recycle in one way or another. Some people may not even realize they are recycling. Have you ever reused a plastic container? If so, then you have recycled. It is contagious and smart. Recycling makes the world a better place. It is helping to cut down on pollution and just making this world a little greener. The best part is that everyone can do it.

I hope this article useful. It's time to do something for our earth.

Herb Gardening Tips

Pacar ChinaIn the last postings, I have explained about the first step in cultivation of medicinal plants. well now I'll give some tips in this planting of medicinal plants. This article may be useful.

  • Beginning gardeners

If room is an issue, you can still take a run at slow food and fresh ingredients with the addition of an herb garden. An herb garden gives your cooking an added level of flexibility and flavor. If like most people, you find yourself throwing together a meal from various frozen, canned and leftover foods, having an herb garden at your disposal elevates a dish's flavor from insipid to intense.

With the addition of fresh rosemary, you can make extraordinarily good meatloaf. Herbed butter can make plain old mashed potatoes a gourmet dish. Barbeque chefs can use fresh herbs to smoke meats and vegetables on the grill. But you will need to grow the herbs first before you can use them.

Since most herbs are pretty easy to cultivate, narrowing down your selection is an important step. First take an inventory of your spice rack and see which herbs you use most. Also take a look at the spices of the different ethnic foods you enjoy. If you like Dim Sum, grow some Chinese herbs. Find out which herbs that you enjoy and are most expensive to purchase and cultivate them.

  • Indoor gardens

When growing an indoor garden, you will want to ensure proper drainage. You will also want to make sure your soil is not too rich. Add at least 1 inch of crushed stone to each pot so water will drain and root rot can be avoided. Herbs grown in overly rich soils will have better foliage but will not have as intense flavors as those grown in a less nutrient rich loam.

In preparing the potting soil, you will want to follow a couple of steps to ensure intensely flavored herbs. Cutting your potting soil by half with coarse sand or perlite is instrumental. You will also want to add limestone to your soil in order to ensure its sweetness. About 1 teaspoon per 5-inch pot is just right.

  • Outdoor gardens

Herbs are hearty and most commonly used organic herbs thrive throughout the US. You will want to employ 1-foot square beds to cultivate your herbs. Each bed in your herb garden should contain a single variety of herb. You will want to keep annuals and perennials separated. Another group of herbs you will want to keep separated are stronger flavored herbs, like mint and dill so that their flavors won't taint more subtle varieties.

When considering a site for your herb garden, drainage is very important. Very few herbs grow well in wet soil. A good way to ensure proper drainage is to make sure that there is a 3-inch layer of crushed stone under your beds down to about twelve to fifteen inches. The soil that you remove should be mixed with peat or compost and sand to loosen the texture. When replacing the soil some settling should be accounted for.

  • Sauteed, grilled or fried
Another way to simplify your herb garden is too arrange it according to the type of cooking you intend to do. You can do an entire area dedicated to Chinese herbs. If you like to grill, you can keep your rosemary, oregano, and chives in an area marked for that use. Others love a fresh pesto, for these folks a window box filled with sweet basil and parsley would do the trick. It makes prep for your favorite dishes quick, easy, and fun.

So what are you waiting for?  Let's Herb Gardening.

Tips and Tricks to Herb gardening (basics)

Sirih
Since most herbs are pretty easy to cultivate, narrowing down your selection is an important step. First take an inventory of your spice rack and see which herbs you use most. Also, take a look at the spices of the different ethnic foods you enjoy. If you like curry or Peking duck, grow some Chinese herbs.

Organic herbs of a dozen varieties will give you plenty of options when it comes to putting together your next dinner party menu. Do a little advance research and find out which herbs are better fresh and which are better dried. While you will find most are best straight out of the garden, there are a few that work better dried, like marjoram.

A few easy steps
  1. One of the best things you can do for your herbs is to trim the top bud, or apical meristem. This will cause the plant to bush out more and produce more leaves. It will also limit the height of the herb. By limiting the height and boosting foliage, you will get more flavorful herbs with fewer amounts of nutrients, making the herb’s flavor more concentrated.
  2. The bigger the leaf the less sunlight you need. A larger leaf herb like Bay will not need as much sunlight as a smaller leaf plant such as rosemary. Big leaf plants are usually those that live under a canopy of trees and have surface area that allows them to catch sun where they can.
  3. Don't use plant feed on your herbs. Herbs that are overly nourished tend to have weaker flavors. Plant foods can also taint delicate flavor notes of certain herbs.
Indoor gardens

When growing an indoor garden you will want to ensure that you are using proper drainage and that the soil is not too rich. Add at least 1 inch of crushed stone to each pot to drain water and avoid root rot. Herbs grown in overly rich soils will have better foliage but will not have as intense flavors than those grown in a less nutrient-rich loam.

In preparing potting soil, be sure to follow a couple of steps to ensure intensely flavored herbs. Cutting your potting soil by half with coarse sand or perlite is key. Add limestone to your soil in order to ensure its sweetness. About 1 teaspoon per 5-inch pot is just right.

Outdoor gardens

Herbs are hearty and the most commonly used varieties thrive throughout the US. Elevated beds are also a great idea to ensure that the soil has proper drainage and a loose texture. You will also find it easier to manage sunlight and harvesting with elevated beds in your herb garden. Each square foot bed should contain a single variety of herb. Grading the beds according to intensity of flavor and whether the herbs are annuals or perennials will also help to enhance the quality of your harvested herbs.

Drainage is as important to the quality of your garden as any other aspect. Most herbs tend to have rather delicate root systems, so the likelihood of root rot increases. Herbs with root rot quickly become dead plants.

How to Getting started in indoor gardening

How to Getting started in indoor gardeningMany people want to do indoor gardening, but many do not know how to begin, for it please read this article.

Lighting

You need to determine is exactly how much light your specific plant will require and whether your home is conducive to providing the needed amount of light. Many homes may not be able to provide an adequate amount of light for plants that require a lot of light during the day. The amount of light your home receives will ultimately determine the type of plants that can be grown indoors. As a general rule, you want to incorporate plants that require a medium to low light; however, exceptions can be made if you are planning on incorporating artificial lighting into the equation. Some examples of medium to low light plants are philodendrons and Boston ferns. Below is a list of some tips on how to ensure your plants receive an adequate amount of light.

  • Place the plants outside during the summer to give them a much needed boost of energy.
  • Rotate your plants to ensure upright growth. Remember that most plants bend toward the light.
  • Be aware of whether your plant is getting enough light. Thin stems, small leaves, and a pale color are indications that it needs more light than it is receiving.
  • If your home does not receive a lot of natural light, consider incorporating artificial light, such as fluorescent lamps to aid in your plants growth.
  • When you bring your plant home, it will require a heavy amount of light at first because it has become accustomed to it at the nursery or garden store. Gradually reduce the amount of light it receives so that it can still thrive in the location you want to place it in your home.

Watering

Every plant has different needs when it comes to watering, so be sure that you are fully informed about your particular plant and its unique watering needs. However, there are some basic rules that you can always abide by:

  • Make sure that the pot your plant is placed in has an adequate drainage system.
  • Be sure to wet the soil fully, but be careful not to over-water your plant. Over-watering is the probable culprit in the demise of most houseplants. Overly moist soil leads to root problems and the leaves will eventually begin to turn yellow because of the lack of oxygen. They are literally drowning slowly.
  • Room temperature water seems to work the best. Water that is too cold or too hot can be shocking to the plant.
Temperature

Again, different plants thrive under different conditions, so be aware of your specific plants needs; however, a general rule with most plants is that temperatures between 65 and 75 degrees during are perfect, with temperatures cooling off about 10 to 15 degrees at nighttime. Here are some other general rules:

  • Rapid temperature changes, whether up or down, can damage your plants.
  • Hotter temperatures cause plants to be smaller and weaker, while colder temperatures will cause the leaves to yellow and fall off.

Containers and pots

Remember that adequate drainage is a must for your plant’s pot or container. Also, if you are going to reuse a pot that has previously housed another plant, be sure to wash it out thoroughly. Plant diseases can be left behind in pots and containers and can be harmful or deadly to your new plant.

Fertilizing

Fertilize quickly growing plants every two to three months. Conversely, dormant plants do not need to be fertilized at all.

Humidity

Levels of moisture in the air affect plants as well. Low moisture leads to curling and dry leaves. If you are going to spray your plants, do it in the morning. A humidifier can be used during the winter while your heater is in use.

Tips & Tricks Flower Care

Flowers Care
Within the past postings, I have explained, what steps are needed to start flower gardening. Now I'll describe some tips for caring for flowers.
Although many people think flower gardening can end up taking all of your spare time, most flower gardens fail because they just don't get enough attention. Along with regular watering, flower gardens should be watched to make sure that they are getting everything they need. By just walking through your flower garden every couple of days and enjoying it, you'll notice if pests have moved in or leaves are wilting due to lack of nutrients.

Feeding your plants

When caring for your flower garden you'll want to make sure the soil continues to contain the nutrients flowers need and that they receive proper watering. Adding compost or humus to the surrounding soil is one of the best things you can do for you flower garden. Compost will add additional nutrients to the soil and also helps protect them from insects and diseases. Fertilizer can also be used to add nutrients to the soil and increase flowering time. If your flowers start to appear lackluster or as if they aren't getting the nutrients they need, add a little fertilizer or compost to the soil.

Flower gardening is also dependent on timely, and ongoing, watering. In some cases natural rainfall will produce all the water need but, in most cases, supplemental watering will also be needed. Flowers and plants vary on water requirements but, in general, most require about 1 inch of water each week. When watering your flower garden, make sure to deeply soak the soil and allow it dry between waterings that occur once or twice a week. The best time to water is morning or early afternoon when the flowers are most responsive.

Controlling weeds and pests

Learning how to control or eliminate weeds and pests can be one of the most difficult things to learn for novice gardeners. Weeds are very invasive and hardy so they can eliminate desirable plants while a pest infestation can destroy the entire flower garden. Your flower garden will be much more successful if the amount of weeds and insects are kept to a minimum, particularly during the growing season.

Weeds

Weeds can best be controlled by making sure they are eliminated before you plant. After tilling, break up the clods of dirt so small pieces of weed stems don't resprout. During the growing season, weeding should be done as needed or an herbicide can be used to eliminate undesirable weeds as well.

For more long-term control of weeds, mulch or plastic sheeting can be used around the plants in your flower garden. This prevents weeds from sprouting by eliminating the light their seeds need to germinate. If a weed does poke through, just pull it out.

Pests

Garden pests and insects come in all shapes and sizes and can provide a host of problems if not controlled. Pesticide is an option that can control nearly any pest problem but, if chemical use isn't desired, there are also other options for controlling pests that don't involve the use of pesticides or other chemicals.

If pests appear in your flower garden, do some research and find out what acts as a natural deterrent and use it. For example, slugs can be repelled by simply rolling out a line of copper wire around the edge of your garden or infested area while ants will avoid any areas that contain mint. Natural deterrents for insects can often be as effective, and are certainly safer, than many pesticides.

That's some tips on keeping your Flowers. These tips may be useful for you

Need to know - flower gardening basics

Flowers
many people who want to flowers gardening, but they do not know what to do. if you want to flower gardening, you should read this article. Flower gardening basics are very simple but, to ensure a healthy and vibrant garden, shouldn't be neglected. By following just a few simple guidelines, your flower garden will become an eye-catching feature for your home that will thrive year after year. Having the right tools, choosing the right site, and picking the right plants are flower gardening basics that will make having your own flower garden fun and hassle-free.

Gardening tools

Having the right gardening tools can make the difference between success and failure in any home garden. Properly selecting your garden tools will cut down or altogether eliminate frustration and make your flower garden a more enjoyable experience to participate in every day. Here are some basic gardening tools that should be included when starting your garden:

  • Pruning shears: These are essential for pruning roses, shrubs, or anything else that grows with a thick stalk and needs to be cut back.
  • Shovels and spades: Having a good shovel or spade is an essential part to any garden. Make sure to pick one that has strong handles and fits well in your hands.
  • Weeding tools: A simple paring knife can work well for weeding but specific tools are also sold for the same purpose.
  • Rakes: A rake with stiff tines will help for removing rocks and leveling soil and a larger rake will be needed for cleaning up accumulated fall foliage.
  • Watering tools: A simple water bucket or hose will work in most instances, but sprinklers, watering wands, and timers can also be purchased to make the job even easier.

Site location

Flower gardening basics also include selecting the right site for your flower garden. This factor can make the most difference in whether your flower garden will thrive or struggle and should be planned for in advance. Here are a number of variables to consider when selecting the location for your flower garden:

  • Light conditions: The amount of sunlight an area sees is a primary factor with six hours of sun being appropriate for most types of plants, although plants can be found to grow in nearly any light conditions. In climates that have harsh summers, your flower garden may also need some shade to protect them from the constant heat.
  • Soil quality: All soils can usually be improved with compost or fertilizer but try to select a site that already has good soil if possible. Avoid areas where water doesn't drain or that have rocky, shallow soil. Also, try to stay away from trees or other large shrubs as they will compete with your flower garden for nutrients and moisture.
  • Area size: You'll also want to make sure you choose a location that has enough space to accommodate the number of plants you want. If a location doesn't have enough room, flowers will fight each other for nutrients, which will reduce bloom time and quantity.

Selecting the plants

Flower gardening basics wouldn't be complete without a few words about selecting the plants that will actually be in your flower garden. Whether you are planning an annual or perennial flower garden, choose plants that will thrive in the climate and soil conditions of your location. Plants can be selected for cold or warm environments and any number of other variables so make sure to do your research.

Plants can be purchased from nurseries or through the mail and both versions typically do quite well. For best results, make sure to buy flowers that haven't begun to bloom yet as they will adapt better after being transplanted.

Once the basics of flower gardening are in place and the plants are in the ground, it's time to make sure your flower garden receives the right attention and care so that it will thrive. fot addition, you can placed the plants on the pot, so we can give the right attention to our plant.

How To Rose Gardening

Beautiful Rose
Rose is one of the main interest of the most preferred, especially by the women. This article will explain about rose gardening.

Rose gardening is one of the most rewarding flower gardens to grow. Rose bushes produce more blooms, quicker, and for longer, than most other flowering perennials or shrubs. The blooms that rose bushes produce have created a steady, passionate following of gardeners whose style has created its own mystique. This reputation has left many average gardeners overwhelmed with the thought of how to learn rose gardening successfully.

Successful rose gardening is easier than the rumors would have you believe. With a few simple tips, roses can be grown in many parts of the world successfully and are hardy enough to survive year after year with a minimal amount of care. To learn rose gardening in a few simple steps:

  • There are many various strains and hybrids of roses but until you become more experienced, pick rose bushes that are hardy and disease-resistant. Many of the newer roses are created with this in mind and it should be easy to find appropriate colors and forms that also have this characteristic.
  • Your rose bushes will need lots of sun. At least six hours of direct sun a day is optimal. Rose gardening can be done in areas that receive les direct sunlight but the number and duration of blooms will be reduced.
  • Plant your roses in an area that has appropriate soil. Rose bushes require a lot of nutrients and a soil that is enriched with compost or humus will work best. The soil should also be well-drained but hold some moisture so that the roots don't completely dry out.
  • Successful rose gardening also requires ongoing maintenance and care. Rose bushes will need ample amounts of water and compost or fertilizer as well as pruning to thrive.

Roses grow best when they are planted in cool and moist conditions that typically occur in spring or fall. They should be planted immediately when the soil becomes workable in either of those seasons and watered on a regular basis for about the first two months or until they take hold and are established.

There are three main types of rose bushes available for planting;

  • Roses that are bare-root are dormant and sold during the winter and early spring. They should be planted as soon as the ground warms up and the soil become workable.
  • Container-grown roses, as the name implies, are typically grown in containers at a nursery. Usually they are available for rose gardening in the spring and are already blooming or budding when purchased.
  • Prepackaged roses are another type of bare-root rose bush that is packaged in a container that has moisture retention material inside to help the roots stay moist.

Whatever type of rose bushes you are planting, your rose garden will have the best chance of thriving by following a these steps. Remember, rose gardening is easy to learn and when in doubt, research will answer most questions.

  • You'll need to dig a hole large enough that allows for the size of the rose bush but will also allow for the roots to spread.
  • When you refill the planting hole, make sure to mix some compost, humus, or peat moss into the soil.
  • Water your newly planted rose bushes until they become well-established.
  • Soak bare-root roses in water before planting. The bud should be 1 inch below the soil after planted.
  • Make sure to cut of dead and decaying plant leaves. Long or damaged roots should also be pruned before planting.
  • Container-grown roses should be left in its package if it will be planted within 10 days of purchase. Keep it moist and plant as soon as you can.
I Hope this article can be helpful.
